It is important that the product is strong and light-weight because it will be sat on by the user and also regularly switched between its 2 functions. In reality the type of wood I would rather use is Mahogany, due to its reputation for natural aesthetic appeal, and strength. My model features MDF for these components but purely due to the fact it is a readily available and cheap material. The part of the product I would most like to investigate is the wooden ribbed panels, which make up the majority of the products mass and fit together like a jigsaw from being flat packed. The rotary turning motion of the interlocking components is a space-efficient method of switching the product easily between its two functions. The second is the form of a low table and floor cushion set, allowing two people to dine in comfort. The first is that of a large, comfortable chair for an individual to relax on. As a multifunctional piece of furniture, it takes two specific different forms. The Vitra “Rotary” is an innovative design which implements a genuinely new and effective mechanism.
